Ukrainian Corvettes for the Iraqi navy?

مشاركة بواسطة hayder » الخميس أكتوبر 21, 2010 10:20 pm

There is talk by the Ukrainian government's arms export agency Ukrspetxport http://www.ukrspecexport.com/ about the $2.5Bn long term weapons agreement with Iraq.

The first stage of the programme was a $400M program for 420xBTR4s / 6xAN32B transports.
But Ukraine is also trying to sell to Iraq two items in the future contracts:
-T84U Oplot tank
-Ukrainian corvette (equipped with Thales electronics from France).

Ukraine is marketing two different types of new generation "stealthy" corvettes.

No less unique is another design by the Research-and-Development Center for Shipbuilding - the multipurpose high-speed corvette called Hayduk. In the performance-versus-cost ratio, the ship is second to none in the world, says Borisov. Having not very big displacement, the ship would accommodate more weapons than any other same-class craft. The Hayduk would be 50 percent smaller than the Russian-designed alternative, the 20382-project harbor defense patrol craft that is now under construction at a shipyard in Saint Petersburg. The Ukrainian boat integrates the best accomplishments embodied in the Western-designed corvette called Visby and the Russian project 20382 (an export version of the patrol ship which the Russians have never displayed at the exhibition in Malaysia).

Borisov feels the Ukrainian project is also better than the MekoA100 corvette supplied by Germany to countries in South-East Asia. With its modular design, the German corvette is bigger in size, and, correspondingly, has a greater displacement. Modular design is only employed by Germans for ships intended for export, not for internal use.

In building the Hayduk, Ukraine would face the only problem - the lack of appropriate nationally-designed weapons. The Ukrainian corvette would have a length overall of 85.47 meters. It would be armed with a 100-mm gun, machine-gun, torpedo launching gears, and mine-laying equipment of the Russian make. The craft also would be fit with anti-submarine weapons, missiles, torpedoes and depth-bombs. The Russian-made weapons could be replaced with Western equivalents, depending on the customer's requirements. As for radars, navigators, and control and communications systems, the technology would be supplied by domestic manufacturers. The Hayhaduk would be propelled by a Ukrainian-made gas turbine integrating a foreign- made diesel engine. Other ship-borne systems would include a three-coordinated acquisition radar, over-the-horizon radar, fire-control radar, electronic countermeasure system, embedded sonar, identification
